Dr. Cheryl Fraser opened up with an amazing guided meditation into the opening of the heart and followed with the dharma teaching . We have been blessed with many new people joining us at the Buddha house the last few weeks it is lovely to have people showing up with interest in Buddhism and meditation. In this email I am including a Love meditation practice that you can do at home if you are interested - it is out of the Chanting and recitation Book compiled by Thich Nhat Hanh . Over the next couple of weeks we will meet for our regular meditation practice, walking meditation and dharma tea ; it is always wonderful to practice together I hope you will all join us . The Yoga class’s will be cancelled now for the summer months and we will try to have them start again in September. I would like to send out a heart felt Thank You to Kelli and Michael for sharing these well attended lovely classes with us all.

Love Meditation

( We begin practicing this love meditation focusing on ourselves (“I”). Until we are able to love and take care of ourselves,we cannot be of much help to others.Next , we can practice towards others (substituting “he/she” or “they”), first with someone we love, next with someone we like, then with someone neutral to us, and finally toward someone who has made us suffer.)

May I be peaceful , happy , and light in body and spirit.
May I be safe and free form injury.
May I be free from anger, afflictions, fear, and anxiety.
May I learn to look at myself with the eyes of understanding and love.
May I be able to recognize and touch the seeds of joy and happiness in myself.
May I learn to identify and see the sources of anger, craving, and delusion in myself.   May I know how to nourish the seeds of joy in myself everyday.
May i be able to live fresh, solid, and free.
May I be free from attachment and aversion, but not be indifferent.

The Five Remembrances
( These five remembrances help us to identify and look deeply at the seeds of fear, They can be recited daily , read aloud as a guided meditation, or used as a silent meditation be individual practitioners.)

I am of the nature to grow old.
There is no way to escape growing old.

(Bell)

I am of the nature to have ill-health.
There is no way to escape having ill-health.

(Bell)

I am of the nature to die.
There is no way to escape death.

(Bell)

All that is dear to me and everyone I love are of the nature to change
There is no way to escape being separated from them.

Four Foundations of Liberation: Building a Solid and Yet Empty House
A retreat suitable for both beginner and experienced meditators. The Satipatthana or 'Four Foundations of Mindfulness,' are known as the Direct Path to Realization. In this retreat renowned psychologist and long time meditator Dr. Cheryl Fraser, Ph.D., will show you how incredibly meaningful and alive this approach is! You will explore ways of meditation that bring you directly in touch with the body and feelings, the first two foundations, and how practice on these areas of being can loosen fixed attachment and personal suffering. You will learn how to bring about psychological ease and balance. Further instruction will then focus on awareness of Mind itself. How does the mind interact with body and feeling-tone? Is there a story or bare attention? How can you train the mind to observe itself? Finally the retreat will explore contemplation of the Dhammas, explaining how to bring a view of Liberation to the experience of the first three foundations. You will learn to address the question: What is the experience of Freedom? Known for her direct, clear, and humorous teaching style, Cheryl seeks to introduce the question: 'How can we be Happy for no reason?'

Teachings twice daily/Satipatthana Meditation practice
Led by Dr. Cheryl Fraser, clinical psychologist, and practitioner of the classical Burmese, Thai and Tibetan meditation traditions; a student of the late Venerable Namgyal Rinpoche.
