Peaceful Mind, Open Heart

Mar 8-10, 2013

We are happy to announce that our Sangha is organizing our first weekend retreat!

Peaceful Mind, Open Heart: Meditation and Dharma for Busy Lives
with Dr. Cheryl Fraser
Friday, March 8 - Sunday, March 10, 2013

at the Bethlehem Retreat Centre
2371 Arbot Road, Nanaimo, BC

The Buddha was arguably the first psychologist. He taught us how to directly experience our minds, thoughts, and emotions. Through cultivating awareness of our mind, we can reduce distress and increase calm and happiness.

This weekend will focus on insight meditation and Metta practice. It will be a silent residential retreat with some guided meditation and Dharma talks.

Registration information:
Registrations with a deposit cheque and a post-dated final payment cheque must be received by December 20, 2012. This guarantees the space at the Bethlehem Retreat Centre.

Space is very limited, so if you would like to attend, please send your registration forms in early.

Total Cost: $215

Cost splits:
$50 non-refundable deposit due by December 20, 2012.

$165 post-dated payment for February 1st, 2013 for the remaining balance.

Please note that all deadlines are made by the Retreat Centre.

Registration forms are available at our Saturday Sangha meetings, or by emailing nanaimobuddhistmeditationgroup@shaw.

Tibetan View of Life

A Buddhist Teaching with Lama Geshe YongDong on Saturday, September 22.

The Book of Natural Liberation Through Hearing suggests five main types of preparation for death while we are still living.

The main preparation is the development of a clear picture of what to expect!

You often hear that someone lived a good life, but rarely hear that a person had a good death.

The book The Tibetan Book of Living & Dying, was written not only as a means of help & guidance for the dying, but also as a guide for living, with valuable advice on how to live without the fear of death and the unknown.

If we fear death we cannot really choose life. We are, instead, trying to figure out how to avoid death, rather than focusing on how to live passionately!

Geshe YongDong's qualities of wisdom, compassion, and humour will help students to recognize and eliminate some of the fear and myths that surround death.

Students will learn methods of preparation that teach how to take control over our lives & fears. How we can give unconditional love, acceptance & joy to others, to live peacefully & fully, & to end our lives without fear or regret when the time comes.
