Just a reminder of the Movie night / pot luck / Social at Josephine's house this Saturday Feb. 18th. at 6:00 . The request is to bring ideas on activities that the Sangha members would like to see take place to build community spirit and bond. This would be a short meeting after the pot luck dinner. Susan has offered to bring the movie Kundun to watch.( Kundun is the incredible true story of one of the world’s most fascinating leaders – Tibet’s Dala Lama). Please RSVP by Feb. 14th. by calling Josephine 250- 756-2127 , her address is 1850 Deerborne Place. (Please note she has 2 small dogs if you have allergies')
I would like to also remind you of our visit to Chan Nguyen Monastery Feb. 25th. Please contact myself or Josephine if you have any questions about taking the five wonderful precepts, or the visit. There have been concerns with people not having the time to spend the night so we will offer two options for this trip. You can come for a day trip on Saturday and return home or second option is to stay the night . If you are taking the precept vows you will need to spend the night as the precept transmission ceremony will be held on Sunday morning. It is best if you can spend the night as Sunday is a wonderful time to experience the morning chanting and be there for the Sunday service and to support the people taking the Five precept vows. Please let us know if you will be joining us so we can make travel arrangements. If you are planning to spend the night please bring a sleeping bag and mat to sleep on and any personal items you my need.
I am very happy to announced that Geshe Yong Dong will be back to teach for us at the Buddha house . Nanaimo Buddha House, Saturday March 10th, 10 am – 12 noonSacred Sound Healing Meditation Learn how to use the healing power of the five sacred syllables - guided by the mind & carried by the breath through subtle channels & chakras of the body Ancient Tibetan Bon texts teach a meditation practice using five seed syllables (A, OM, HUNG, RAM, DZA) which represent the body, speech, mind, virtuous qualities & actions of enlightenment.
The seed syllables are chanted while bringing the attention to the five corresponding chakras or energy centers in the body. Through the combination of focus on a particular location, the vibration of the sound, & the awareness of light, we develop an increasingly clear & open presence, glowing with positive qualities. The qualities themselves; love, compassion, joy, & equanimity, become the supports or entrances to a deeper connection with self, a deeper wisdom, & the very space from which all of existence arises.
Sounding the seed syllables in a group provides an effective entrance into a deep, healing meditation, helping to calm the mind's chatter & discover a peaceful inner richness & stillness.
In this introductory course, Geshe YongDong will share his knowledge of the healing power of the five sacred syllables; & guide participants in how to use them.
